Gaines “Dogmeat” Porter
A collection of portraits and candid stills of a homeless Vietnam Veteran and former Marine named Gaines Porter, colloquially referred to as “Dogmeat”, who is a well-known, enigmatic, and stylish character in Atlanta’s West End neighborhood. Battling cancer and PTSD amongst other hardships, he shared some brutally graphic memories of war still vividly trapped in his mind. Still, even without speaking, the images are painted on his eyes filled with wisdom and horrors of human brutality.
Hasan “Book” Badi
A collection of portraits and candid stills of a brilliant character named Hasan Badi, a patriot, philosopher, social justice warrior, and independent bookseller colloquially known as “Book” of Atlanta’s West End neighborhood. Behind his shades, I couldn’t see his eyes at first, but I could feel the silent wisdom of thousands of pages emanating back at me. Every morning from 6 am until 6 pm, you can find him guarding his bookstand that faces the busy street enticing passersby to indulge in his offerings of existentialism.
